seriously, i am really going to woodbridge. not because i have mental illness, well, maybe i do, but it's mainly because of homework and school pressure. i am in other words, going siao, or crazy, whatever words that is associated with "mad". i mean it. the cheena people are making me crazy. they turned my whole room upside down with their stuff. and one more thing, my room now stinks. sure, with their stinky clothes and smelly socks, and shoes duh! oh, and worn ones. i had to pinch my nose or put a peg on it just to go to my room for "extra protection". i could hardly take the stench. it's worse than dog poo. just the thought of it makes me go sick. i wonder, is it some kind of trend in china for people to throw their things round and about in someone else's home? maybe it's a tradition, or worse, some kind of dumb practice. whatever, i am seriously going to go on strike. they are seriously turning my room into some sort of rubbish dump. and seriously, my wardrobe, which is rosewood, has been stuffed full with their clothes. the hanger looks like it's about to break. hmmm, maybe i should ask for repair fee. har har. like that'll ever happen. even my mom doesn't care. she's like totally sucking up to the cheena people. what the hell. life's not going to be good these two weeks...for me. jia qing is kicking me every night when i am sleeping. in the morning he will shout into my ear. i am so going to go deaf soon...hmmm....lots of talented people are deaf, beethoven is, helen keller is too. lol, maybe i'll get famous. yeah, you are problably going to say" in your dreams, buster", but hey, who knows....

sigh...and it's another tiring day. i can't seem to find electricity bills for the science teacher! mom says she lost ours, so yeah, no choice. i had to go around borrowing other people's. i feel so embarrased. yeah, you would know how i feel, if you were me. duh! i mean, the whole class brings it, except you, so yeah. oh, yeah, and we had this cheena people coming to my house this week, my mom was like telling me off to pack u my room as they had to use it, and i kept protesting, i mean, what can you expect? it's MY room, not theirs. and then, they said something about what, that my family was living here, and that they were in financial difficulties, yeah, right. financial difficulties. then why did you even bother to come on holiday? might as well remain in china, i mean, i did not ask or beg them to come, i was the one who had to clear out my room! not them! not my family! i am ALWAYS the unlucky one, and guess what, i didnt clear my soft toys, and one of them said that she was allergic to furry things, and would get very sick, and i was like: look, woman, you want to stay here, in my room! take it or leave it, and guess what, i got a scolding afterwards and they were all laughing their heads off at me. i felt like shooing them like i was shooing flies, i mean, it's my room, but i have totally no freedom over it. yeah, right, MY room the MY word is only for display, but no meaning to it. seriously, my life is so unfair. why must i clear my room? why not my bro?seriously, this is so sexist. come on, people! hilary clinton is running for president! it's girl power man! and then, during dinner time, they told my mom, what that girl of yours should be taken in hand before it's too late, blah, blah, blah, i listen until i want to punch them in the ass, so they could fly back to the rock they crawled out from. coming into my country, staying in my house, polluting my room, and showing me attitude?! you want attitude, i'll give it to you, lets see who has more. this morning, before going to school, i went into my room to double check and one of them were putting their feet on my study table, and i went in to push them off, obviously, they woke up and the entire household did too, so did my mom and dad. right, and i got scolding duh, early in the morning and i slammed the door in the cheena's face. when i went home after training, they were like watching tv in my room, not that i mind, but they even got all my DVDs out! hello? is it so hard for them to not touch my things? i mean, they even threw all my DVDs onto the floor, and never even bothered to arrange them back! i had to put the whole lot back when they went out for lunch! these f****** people, if i ever catch them doing that again, i'll show them who wears the pants in my room!

sigh....i haven't posted for a week. yeah, hard to believe it since i made a commitment to post on it every two or three days, but a week?! even me myself is surprised. oh, well, what can i do? been so busy...just finished meeting my friends in jurong for 2 projects....bloody library wasn't open during good holidays and that sure sucks, then i had to go all the way to jurong to do my 2 projects...namely music and science....sigh....the teachers in my school are giving projects like eating dinner. what can i do? what can i say? i am just so irritated. no one seemsto be able to concentrate. once they could get into the internet, the first thing would be msn. yeah, right, i am not saying i dun msn, but not during projects meetings and such. especially when fifi meets vicky, it's always about some nathan or nathren guy. yeah, i understand that fifi has a weakness for him, but still first things first, instead of chatting, talking and laughing like mad people who escaped from woodbridge, they should just try to concentrate. anyway, i want to thank jo ann and her dad for send ing me home right to my doorstep. okay, maybe not the doorstep, but you get the idea. ooh, they're probably having a barbeque now...jojo told me about it. she's so cute! yeah, and her parents sure are nice though....haha. oh, and vicky's birthday is tomorrow, and i gave her a present...bought it on my way there. i mean, i woke up this morning and say vicky's birthday plastered across my calendar and i was like: shit!i forgot her present!" haha, i am just so vulgar....so dun mess up with me. oh, yeah, and i am still very in love with roger. he won the indian wells tournament! just after he recovered from an illness....it's too long, i am lazy to spell it out, yeah, and joyce and amanda are still mad on show and angela...as usual. perfectly normal for them...i wonder how they do it. it's incredible. yeah, even i dun go mad and forget myself whenever i see roger, i mean, what about the term playing hard to get? i am sure they dunno, i mean, looking at show's an angela's pictures and go...."argh, so cute!", "so handsome", and then there was the picture of show brushing his teeth, and that was even cute too....for joyce. i think it's kinda ridiculous....i mean, what's to look at him brushing his teeth? it's what she does everyday. unless, she doesn't, then i have nothing else to say

its amazing how bored i can be during the holidays. during term, i was always the one oping that holidays would come soon, and when it finally came, i am lagging in so many things. its so troublesome, nothing to do all day except watching tv, blogging, chatting online, and eating and then repeat the thing over and over again, yeah, i have a bad case of the holiday blues, so there. but when term starts again, i will be lamenting for the holidays again! yeah, i can take a hint, i am a weirdo, eccentricity. yeah, thats my personality. haha, laugh all you want. today starsports is airing the rematch between pete sampras and roger federer, gotta write it on my planner. see? that's basically the only thing i do during the holidays, keeping tabs on tv schedules, showtimes and movies etc. welcome to my world. i am a screen fanatic, be it big or small, silver or tv. i am so odd, even i myself think so. say hi to me, the world's greatest oddity!

Plot summary
The story begins on March 6, 2007, tracking the lives of a number of characters, including Alex and Josie Cormier, Lacy and Peter Houghton, Patrick Ducharme, and several victims-to-be. Patrick, the only detective on the Sterling police force, hears on his radio of shots fired at Sterling High School. He changes route to the school and when he arrives, he searches the school to seek out the shooter. After passing dozens of dead and wounded victims, he traps the shooter in the locker room and he is taken away.
Throughout the book, the time switches back and forth between events before and after the shooting. In the past, we learn that Peter and Josie were once the best of friends, but slowly drifted apart as they progressed through school. Peter was the target of severe bullying, which he describes as his motivation for the shooting: "It had to stop."
After the shooting, Peter is sent to jail while the trial proceeds, and is only visited by his parents and Jordan McAfee, his attorney. He waives the probable cause hearing and admits that he did kill ten people (nine students and one teacher) and wound nineteen others, while Jordan’s objective is to convince the jury that Peter’s actions were justified since he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and was in a dissociative state at the time of the shooting.
Eventually, Josie is reluctantly hauled into the case to testify on Peter's behalf – despite earlier signing an affidavit saying she could not recall anything from the time of the shooting – after admitting to Jordan that she did, in fact, remember some of the details. However, upon being brought up to the witness stand, she confesses that although Peter did kill Matt Royston - Josie's abusive boyfriend at the time - she shot him in the stomach first.
Peter is sentenced to life imprisonment, and Josie is sentenced to five years at a women’s penitentiary. Exactly a month after being convicted, Peter suffocates himself in his cell using a sock.
favourite moments: i think i have to give credit to jodi picoult for writing out peter's character so well. this book is worth every single cent i paid.

List of biggest opening weekends
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
What is notable about this list is that not many films released before the mid-to-late 1990s are on it. This is mainly because movies used to have small (by today's standards) opening weekends yet would go on to become blockbusters, whereas today, filmgoers tend to want to see the film when it first comes out, and for the most part, begin to lose interest in it after about its second weekend.
Perhaps the most important issue with this list is that it does not consider inflation whatsoever. For example, on the latter list, Return of the Jedi grossed about $23M on its opening weekend at 1983 pricing. However, using the consumer price index to adjust for inflation, the film grossed about $43M (2005 dollars), which would place it roughly halfway up this list. Due to the inherent instability of a monetary rating system, it could prove more accurate to rate films according by ticket sales rather than gross figures, but it most definitely is more accurate to at least consider inflation.

yeah, you will have obviously guessed that this entry is about my badminton cca in school. i dun mean i that i hate it, i actually love it, it's just that the physical or warm up, as you might call it, is extremely tiring and it lasts for an hour. yeah, so by the time i've already warmed up, i am too tired to even hit shuttles, and that really pisses me off. i joined it so that i can hit shuttles, not jumping and hopping up and down the stairs, push ups and sit ups and all those tiring activities. sure, it's fun, and kinda interesting, but seriosly, i feel like i am dead when i finish the whole thing. then i can barely move and hit the shuttles. and whats more, every single time i go home after every badminton training session, my aunt have to make my life hard for me. she said something like....stop using the tpc...you are wasting my electricity! and "my electricity bills have upped since you started staying with me" and hello, she spend like 15 minutes every night to wash and make her bloody face, and she was the one who broke my record for staying in the bath for so long! her record was like....20 min? and poor me have to stand outside waiting for such a long time. and the worse thing? she will be like....go mop the floor, sweep it, clean up the house etc. hello! what the bloody hell is she doing then? sleeping? why do i have to do all the dirty work for her? i sure would like her to tell me why. and during the times when she interrupts me during my break times at home(i hardly get any). and i feel like giving her one tight slap across her fucking face. i mean, she practices buddhism and forced me into it! i cant even have my own choice of religion! what kind of freaking rule is that? i simply dun understand. she even confiscated my ipod! how ridiculous is that? hah, feel like kicking her ass till she flies to some godforsaken place where no one can find her. and the reason she cant get married is because no one wants her and yet she is still so thick skinned and said" the reason i didnt want to get married is because i dun want my marriage to turn out like your parents'". is that an insult? ha! she doesnt show respect for anyone, not even her brother, who is my father.

ever watched the phantom of the opera? it's a really nice musical movie, i mean, with an all star cast like emmy rossum, gerard butler, patrick wilson, minnie driver and miranda richardson, it's a really must watch for all.
the movie starts out with christine(rossum) with a group of little ballet dancers preparing for the opera " la carlotta". the reigning queen of the opera house, carlotta giudicelli(driver), who was supposed to sing " think of me". however, mishaps happen and she stormed out of the opera house. monsieur andre and firmin, the new bosses of the opera house was at a loss on what to do. now that their one and only opera singer had gone, there was no way that they could host the opera, but then madame giry(richardson), the ballet teacher, told the bosses that christine has the talent of singing. the monsieurs were surprised and decided to hear her sing. after singing think of me, she was cast as la carlotta in carlotta's place. her childhood sweetheart vicomte de chagny or known to her as raoul became the chairman of the theatre, and went to watch the opera. on that night christine sang, he was amazed and old feelings came back to him. then, as the opera finished and as christine went back to her dressing room, her voice coach, the movie's protagonist, the phantom(butler) came into the room from a passageway hidden in her mirror and led her to his underground home. this is when the theme song: the phantom of the opera begins. then, as roaul went to her room and found her missing, he went to search for her. on the other hand, the phantom had sent discriminating letters to monsieur firmin and andre. both of them had the same content. they said that the theatre should overthrow carlotta and this is where carlotta came in. after a twist of events, in the opera "poor fool, he makes me laugh", carlotta was once again cast as the main soprano and christine as a silent boy servant. then, this is where the phantom hung the stagehand, buquet was hung by the phantom...and then came my favourite part...the balcony scene, where christine and raoul sang " all i ask of you". then, as they embraced, the phantom saw it and crushed the rose he gave to christine and swore to take revenge. then came the "past the point of no return" where the phantom murdered one of the characters, in order to put himself into the role. as they were about to finish the song, christine swiped off his mask and saw his true face. it was distorted with burns and scars, and most of all, with hatred. he loved christine more than anything and was jealous of raoul. this is where the famous chandelier scene takes place. the phantom took out a knife and cut off the ropes holding the chandelier, causing it to drop onto the audience. then the phantom dragged christine to his underground chamber and forced her to marry him. this is where the three of them, raoul, christine and the phantom collaborated for the song: down once more". then, the phantom sensed christine's undying love for raoul and let the two of them leave together. the movie ends when 40 years later, after christine's death, raoul went to her grave to give her a memento, the monkey which he had auctioned for at the start of the movie. over there, he saw the ring, tied to a rose....which the phsntom had used to propose to christine 40 years ago, in that underground chamber.
[edit] Casting the Film
The casting for the two leading roles was a rather lengthy process. Patrick Wilson, who later got the part of Raoul, had initially auditioned for the title role of The Phantom. The director later felt he was better to play Raoul because his voice matched the character better.[1] Several actors were considered to play the title role including John Travolta and Antonio Banderas. Originally offered the role, Travolta turned it down because he felt the film wouldn't work, while Banderas, a skilled singer, took several months off from acting to train for the part, before he was turned down. Hugh Jackman was up for the role, but he lost the role at the last minute after the director heard him singing. He felt that he looked right for the part, but something about his voice wasn't good enough.[2] Gerard Butler finally won the role after several intense screen tests. Casting for the role of Christine Daae took longer. Charlotte Church, Keira Knightley, and Katie Holmes were all in the running. Holmes had secured the part but the director refused to cast her because he felt that she was too old for the part; she reportedly impressed him with her voice.[3] Anne Hathaway was a soprano singer in New York, and she was praised for her voice; she auditioned several times and almost got the part, but just as the contract was sent to her, she was forced to decline because of the overlapping schedules with the Princess Diaries sequel, although she tried to make it work. Emmy Rossum won the part.

and its another day i quarrelled with my aunt. why can't she understand me? i mean....attending religion classes are just so not my type! it's a complete waste of my time, i could be studying, meeting out with my friends and doing other things. yeah, and thinking of andre and juleen just makes me feel jealous, being star tennis players and andre is turning pro the next year! yeah, sure i am happy for him, he's my favourite cousin and he dotes on me a lot but at the same time, i kinda feel jealous too. i keep telling myself, come on, yoou were the one who made the decision to continue your studies in singapore, so it's the consequences you have to suffer. oh, and about the fact that their aunts are not as trashy as mine, i mean, everyay when i come home from school, it will be: go and clean up your bedroom! go and bathe! go and do your homework! no computer for you today! it's always those few things and i am just so sick and tired of it. and the most sickening thing is....i am living with her. yeah, sure, since she keeps saying: your parents dun take care of you, leaving akk the dirty work to us, and yet you are still so selfish and naughty, you might as well go home. ha, when she said that was ready to give her one tight slap across her face, since she was so haggy, and bitchy. i mean, sure, i can go home! like i want to stay in your old and pathetic house. and you won't have anyone to do your chores for you, and no one to help you with your things, and by that time, i will see how you can survive. and it's a wonder you do not have a husband, with this kind of attitude, i don't know what kind of men want ypu, the unlucky guy won't even have a moment of peace and sure, the marriage will end in divorce once he has seen her true colours and when that time comes, i will not be in the least bit surprised. i mean, after tolerating her and her bloody attitude for 5 years....i was ready to burst out. and her dwarf of a sister always stand by her, sure, i totally undertand, blood sisters, i say. both have bloody attitudes and the same character, and both are the only ones in the family not yet married yet, yeah, and it's no wonder...everyone will understand

i am kinda sad though, even though i did not know the vice principal for a very long time, i think he's a caring and responsible person. his new haircut makes his head looks sqauare. okay, i won't criticise him anymore. but the most amazing thing is...he sang a song! dang ni gu dan by nicholas zhang! oh my god! yeah, i know, it was damn cool! i mean, it was nice and it didn't bother that he had to hold onto the lyrics, he only learnt to sing it recently! well, i am sure that none of your vice-principals sang to you without being pressurized. i mean, it's so cool! oh, and yeah, i got back my science test results.....20/30, how bad can it get? the questions i got wrong are bloody careless. oh, and i am in great danger of failing my geography test since i think that i am the only person in the class who doesn't knows how to read 6 figure grids and topographical maps. i am so freaked out over it. yeah, and my science tuition teacher makes my bloody blood boil. he makes this disgusting ink blotch whenever he marks a question wrongly. and he talks like...uh....um, muahahahaha, a person who er, erm, can't talk? yeah, and for the first time i wish mr tan cy was teaching me. i shouldn't have called him names, yeah, i am so sorry. anyway, i dun think he would be able to see my blog, since not even my tuition mates have the URL, so yeah, he can't see it. but i am trying to look for bloody pictures to post so this blog won't look so empty. i loved the barbequed and bleached sir stamford raffles i posted last time, it was so meaningful, maybe not to you, but to me. and the ultimate of all....MARCH holidays next week! can't wait though! i dun have to wake up so bloody early to catch the bloody train. and i won't have to see any worksheets, textbooks, for an entire week! well, maybe i have to, but not that much. yeah, and my eyes are going to explode if i ever look at one page of my bloody textbook! and yeah, i have five projects lined up for this march, so instead of holiday, it's going to be hell for me, well, the whole of 1C2. anyway, to all students out there, happy holidays!

Leona Lewis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Leona Louise Lewis (born 3 April 1985) is an English singer-songwriter and winner of the third series of the popular British television talent show The X Factor.
Her debut single, "
A Moment like This", was released in December 2006, breaking a world record after it was downloaded fifty thousand times within thirty minutes.[1] Her second single "Bleeding Love" was the biggest selling single of 2007 in the United Kingdom. Her debut album, Spirit, was released in November 2007, and became the fastest selling debut album ever in both the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.[2][3] It is claimed Lewis will be the first winner of a major television talent show in either the UK or U.S. to be given a major global launch with the release of their debut album.[4]
Biography

Early life
Lewis was born in the London district of Islington to parents Aural Josiah, a Guyanese Afro-Caribbean youth worker, and Marie Lewis, a social worker of Anglo-Welsh descent.[5][6] She is the middle child of three, with two brothers, Kyle, who is younger, and Bradley, who is older.[7] They grew up in Highbury and went to school at Ambler Primary School in Finsbury Park.[7] Lewis always wanted to get into music and at the age of five her parents sent her to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, despite fearing it would cripple them financially.[6] She also attended performing arts academy Italia Conti in Goswell Road, Islington[8] and then the BRIT School[9] where she was a classmate of Katie Melua.[10] She also had small parts in TV shows and commercials, including as an extra in EastEnders.[11]
Lewis wrote her first song at the age of twelve,[12] and at the age of thirteen she won the Lady D under-eighteen talent show at the Hackney Empire.[13] In 2004 she won the Yates's Wannabe Talent Contest, singing Mariah Carey's "Always Be My Baby".[14]
After leaving school, Lewis took a number of jobs to pay to get into a recording studio. She worked in Pizza Hut as a waitress[6] and as a receptionist for Metropolitan Mortgages in Median Road, Lower Clapton, Hackney.[8] She was also a receptionist for Head & Short Chiropodists in Stoke Newington High Street.[15]
She recorded a number of songs including a demo album of her own songs called Twilight, but the album was never released.[16] When she was fifteen years old she recorded a version of Minnie Riperton's "Lovin' You" with music producer Marley J. Wills, after which Lewis and Wills were invited to the US by Sony.[17] Wills went on to say that "She was young and innocent but very much able. Even then she had a very good voice. We started putting tracks together straight away [...] Leona could hit the notes and I think she did it better than the original."[18]
When her music career seemed to be going nowhere, she decided to give up, until her boyfriend persuaded her to enter The X Factor.[13]

The X Factor

In 2006, Lewis auditioned for the third series of The X Factor, singing "Over the Rainbow". She made it through to the final stages and was announced the winner on 16 December 2006, winning a £1 million recording contract.[19] She was mentored by Simon Cowell.
Lewis's voice was consistently highly praised by all three judges — Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne. On occasions she was compared with divas such as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion.[6] All three judges also commented on how the British music industry needed a singer like her, and that her performances were world class.[6] Walsh remarked that her performance of "I Will Always Love You" was as good as Whitney Houston's version. On the 28 October show (Big Band week), Lewis sang "Summertime". Following her performance, Cowell said, "You are, absolutely, the best contestant I have ever had across any of these shows, and that was an amazing performance."
Lewis was criticised, by both the judges and in the press, in relation to her confidence. Vocal coach Mark Hudson also criticised her lack of star quality.[20] On the 9 December show, Cowell remarked that her rendition of Eva Cassidy's "Over the Rainbow" (originally sung by Judy Garland) was the best he had ever witnessed. Cowell also commented throughout the show that Lewis's lack of awareness as to how good she is, is what makes her special. On the final night of the show, Take That joined Lewis on stage for a duet of their song "A Million Love Songs". After the performance, singer Gary Barlow told Cowell, "This girl is probably fifty times better than any other contestant you have ever had, so you have a big responsibility to make the right record with her."[21] Before the final, on 11 December, Lewis performed at Hackney Empire for her friends, family and people from the local area.[8] She went on to win the competition, receiving 60% of the 8,000,000+ votes cast.[19] Cowell claims that he believed runner up Ray Quinn would win, until Lewis sung Eric Carmen's "All by Myself" and hit the final note, saying, "I think that final note may have just won you The X Factor".[6][22][23][24]

One million copies of the winner's single, a cover of Kelly Clarkson's first single "A Moment like This", were pre-ordered by stores,[25] although at the time, the winner of the show had not been announced and it was unknown who would be releasing the single.
"A Moment like This" was released on CD on 20 December 2006, and was available as a digital download from midnight on 17 December. It broke a world record after it was downloaded fifty thousand times in thirty minutes.[1] On 24 December, "A Moment like This" was crowned the 2006 UK Christmas number-one single,[26] having sold 571,253 copies,[27] beating Take That's single "Patience", and outselling the rest of the Top 40's sales combined.[27] It was reported that one chain was "shifting more than 100 of her CDs a minute".[28] The single became the biggest downloaded song in 2006, beating Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy". The single stayed at number one for four weeks, and also stayed at the top spot in the Irish Singles Chart for six weeks.[29] It went on to sell in the region of 1,000,000 copies.[30]
A four-track download EP, "It's All for You", that she recorded before entering The X Factor went on sale online on 18 December 2006,[31] however, the single did not chart.
In February 2007, Lewis signed a £5 million ($9.7 million) five album contract in the United States with Clive Davis's record label, J Records.[32] Lewis celebrated her record deal by showcasing for several American music executives at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California,[33] where she sang "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word", "Summertime" and "Over the Rainbow". One executive described her as "the lovechild of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey".[32]
On 16 January 2007, "A Moment like This" was shortlisted for the British Single award at the 2007 BRIT Awards. It made it to the second round but was eliminated and did not make it to the final selection. In May it was awarded the Ivor Novello Award for Best Selling British Single.[34] On 15 March 2007, Lewis performed "Over the Rainbow" in front of Charles, Prince of Wales at the UK finals of The Prince's Trust RBS Celebrate Success awards at the Barbican Centre in London, which were hosted by June Sarpong.[35] She also presented the award for "Young Achiever of the Year".
On 2 June 2007, Lewis performed at a special This Is Your Life for Simon Cowell,[36] singing "Somewhere", from West Side Story, with Il Divo.
Lewis appeared in the October 2007 issue Harper's Bazaar UK, modelling dresses from Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana, Emanuel Ungaro and Vivienne Westwood.[37] The photo shoot took place in Los Angeles and it was reported that severe disruption was caused when a crowd of fans blocked the streets trying to see her.[38][39][40]

2007–present: Spirit
On 25 April 2007, a press release was sent out revealing that Simon Cowell and Clive Davis would work together in a first-of-its-kind partnership on both the song and producer selection for Lewis's debut album, entitled Spirit.[4][41] On 24 September 2007, Lewis performed a special album launch party at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Knightsbridge, London, where she performed four tracks from the album.[42][43][44][45] The album was released in the Republic of Ireland on 9 November 2007, where it entered the Irish Albums Chart at number one, being Ireland's fastest selling debut album of all time.[2] It was released on 12 November 2007 in the United Kingdom, where it entered the UK Albums Chart at number one, and was also the UK's fastest selling debut album, and the fourth fastest selling album of all time.[3] The album was released internationally in January 2008, and went to number one in New Zealand, Australia, Austria Germany and Switzerland.[46] Spirit will be released in the United States on 18 March 2008.[47][48]
Lewis wrote and recorded tracks for the album in London, Miami,[49] Los Angeles,[50] New York City and Atlanta, Georgia.[51] She worked with several songwriters and record producers including Dallas Austin,[51] Max Martin, Stargate,[52] Walter Afanasieff,[53] Salaam Remi, Kara DioGuardi and Novel.[54] She also recorded a track with Ne-Yo.[55][56]
Lewis's second single, "Bleeding Love", produced by Ryan Tedder and written by Tedder and Jesse McCartney, was released on 22 October 2007 in the UK.[57] Lewis performed the song on the first live show of the fourth series of The X Factor on 20 October.[58][59] The single sold 66,000 copies on its first day of release[60] and went on to sell 218,805 copies in its first week, giving it the biggest first-week sales of 2007 to date.[61][62] It entered both the UK and Irish Singles Charts at number one.[62][63][64] It stayed at the top of the UK chart for seven weeks and the Irish chart for eight.[65] It has also been number one in the singles charts of New Zealand, Australia, Bulgaria, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Belgium and Austria.[65] On 16 December 2007, "Bleeding Love" won The Record of the Year 2007 award.[66] On 21 February 2008, Lewis became the second UK reality show contestant to break the major American charts as "Bleeding Love" entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 85.[67] The first was Joss Stone.
On 31 October 2007, Lewis appeared on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge, with acoustic performances of "Bleeding Love" and a cover of Snow Patrol's 2003 single "Run".[68][69] Her version of "Run" was popular with listeners, and as a result, was added to Radio 1's A list (a list of songs receiving the most airplay).[70]
On 3 November 2007, Lewis appeared alongside Céline Dion, Jennifer Lopez and other female vocalists, on an ITV singing special called Saturday Night Divas.[71] On 6 November she won 'Newcomer of the Year' at the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Woman of the Year Awards[72][73] and on 7 November, she turned on the world famous Oxford Street Christmas lights.[74][75] On 16 November 2007, Lewis performed "Bleeding Love" live on Children in Need.[76]
It was reported on 31 October 2007 that management company UEG Music planned to release an album of ten songs recorded by Lewis before her time on The X Factor, shortly after the release of Spirit, called Best Kept Secret. This is because the management company claimed they wanted to recoup some of the costs incurred in their investment and training of Lewis, including £70,000 of studio costs that they claimed remained unpaid. They also claimed to have offered Sony and Lewis's father to buy the rights of the album but both refused. Cowell was reportedly angered by the release of the album, saying that the company did not have the rights to release the songs, and that he would attempt to block the album from being released. He also claimed that the songs are unfinished demos, that fans should boycott the album and that there is no agreement with Lewis to release it. A representative for Lewis said: "UEG approached Leona and her representatives earlier this year - but they do not have the rights to release these demos."[77][78][79][80][81][82] Despite Cowell's attempts, the album was briefly released two weeks after her debut album Spirit, on 26 November 2007, through online music store Juno Records, though all trace of the album was removed from Juno the same day.
In the 30 November 2007 edition of American magazine Entertainment Weekly, Lewis was included among "8 to Watch in '08" in their 2007 "Entertainer of the Year" issue. The list of entertainers expected to become household names in the coming year describes Lewis as "the next Mariah Carey".[83]
On 14 January 2008, Lewis was nominated for four BRIT Awards, in the categories British Female Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act, British Album for Spirit, and British Single for "Bleeding Love".[84] She performed at the awards ceremony on 20 February 2008.[85] Despite being the favourite to win the most awards,[86] she received none.[87] Lewis's management team were reportedly furious, saying "Her record sales dragged the industry off its arse last year."[88] Simon Cowell was reported to have been pleased about the snub as it will make her stronger and stop her from developing an ego, although he added that it was a "mockery" that she received no awards.[89]
On 9 February 2008, Lewis performed at Clive Davis's annual pre-Grammy party, as Davis's 'Special New Artist' guest.[90][91][92] It has been reported that Lewis has agreed to appear in the seventh series of American Idol in 2008 to help boost her career in the United States.[93]
Lewis's third single, a double A-side featuring "Better in Time" and "Footprints in the Sand", will be released in the United Kingdom in March 2008, in aid of Sport Relief,[94][95] and she will visit Africa for the charity.[96][97]
It has been reported that Lewis is planning a £15 million world tour in 2010.[98] A second album is planned for release in 2009.[99]

Personal life
Lewis now lives in Hackney and has been with her boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa, an electrician, since she was seventeen. Lewis and Al-Chamaa have known each other since Lewis was nine years old and they grew up on the same street.[6][100] They are reported to have exchanged commitment rings and rented a £120,000 flat together in North London.[8][100] Lewis has stated that she would like to to marry Al-Chamaa.[6]
Although her big passion is singing, Lewis is also a keen dancer and actress, and can play the piano and guitar.[13] She also has a pet Rottweiler named Rome.[13]
Lewis has been a vegetarian since she was 12, saying that she became ill when she stopped eating meat because she did not know what else to eat. She says in the future she would like to promote a line of non-leather bags and shoes that are affordable.[101]
